This study addresses the ongoing debate surrounding the use of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS) software, particularly in contemporary research areas such as education and corporate social and environmental responsibility. While proponents argue that CAQDAS is an effective tool for organizing and coding data, exploring patterns, and contributing to improved research efficiency and time-saving, others criticize it, believing that the resulting analyses may lack interpretive depth and methodological rigor.
The findings indicate that researchers' attitudes toward CAQDAS are influenced by subjective factors such as philosophical background, research experience, and technical ability. Although the software relies on the same principles as traditional qualitative analysis, its unique feature is its ability to integrate raw data, analytical memos, correlations, and preliminary products into an integrated and transparent working environment, facilitating review of the analysis stages and outcomes.
The research experience also showed that combining manual analysis with the use of CAQDAS enhances the quality of the results and provides a deeper connection to the data. This mixed approach is most appropriate for ensuring a balance between deep interpretive understanding and technical rigor. With the increasing prevalence of CAQDAS use outside academic contexts, there is a need to focus on the conscious, systematic use of the program, the selection of the appropriate package, and good training, to ensure that it is employed as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for the researcher's critical thinking.
