This study aimed to identify the economic and non-economic factors driving consumer preferences and stable purchasing behavior for table eggs in the Plateau region, viewing them as a core dietary staple despite price volatility.
The findings highlight two main influences: practical economic drivers and non-economic behavioral factors. Economically, eggs proved to be the most economical and affordable protein source, compatible with most income levels, guaranteeing sustained demand. Crucially, quality (cleanliness and integrity) fostered trust and increased purchasing volume, alongside the efficiency provided by pack size and ease of storage.
Non-economic factors encompass demographic necessity (driven by children/elderly), time efficiency (quick preparation), and versatility, complemented by deeply rooted dietary habits emphasizing eggs' unique nutritional value.
The study recommends implementing mechanisms for price stabilization to keep eggs an affordable economic option, ensuring product quality and safety, and undertaking rational production planning to guarantee supply in high-density areas. This strategy aims to leverage the economic driver for increased consumption while boosting health awareness, especially targeting households with dependents.
