This study aimed to investigate the role of digital media in combating terrorism and extremism and promoting awareness and sound thinking among individuals in society. It also aimed to identify the role of media in combating extremism and terrorism, as well as the contribution of social media platforms in spreading intellectual awareness to reduce extremism and terrorism. Additionally, the study aimed to explore the methods used by media outlets to combat extremist ideologies.
The study yielded several conclusions. Firstly, media plays a clear role in combating terrorism and extremism by disseminating information and stories that reflect tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and global human values. The study revealed that media mechanisms actively influence the audience and can change their thoughts and beliefs. Various techniques such as mobile journalism, fact-checking, and direct communication with the audience can be employed to achieve positive impact. Furthermore, digital media has significant potential to influence the audience, given its ability to reach a large number of individuals and engage with them instantly. This enables the wide and effective dissemination of anti-terrorism and anti-extremism messages. Traditional and digital media should broadcast information about terrorism and extremism in an appealing and convincing manner by utilizing influential and credible individuals who resonate with the audience. These media outlets should strive to present opinions and guidance that are accepted by the public and inspire them to adopt positive stances.
